Student loans unaffected by possible strike

The Saskatchewan government is reassuring students that their student loans and other monies they get for studying won't be affected if there is a strike at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology.

The institution received 48-hour strike notice from the Saskatchewan Government Employees Union yesterday morning, meaning a strike could happen at midnight Friday.

A news release from the Saskatchewan government late yesterday says it wants the union and the college negotiators to "roll up their sleeves, get back to the negotiating tables and come to an agreement."

The government also says there will be no disruption in administering student financial assistance, including student loans, skills training benefit or provincial training allowance payments.
