Saskatoon police have seized a number of guns and are contemplating charges after a handgun was discharged in a Saskatoon elementary school Thursday morning.
Police say the .45 handgun was accidently discharged in the back of a classroom at St. Peter Catholic Elementary School around 10:15 a.m. after an 11-year-old boy was attempting to show the gun to his friends.
Police are still trying to determine how the handgun ended up in the possession of the boy.
“Not only that, how did it end up loaded and at a school,” said Saskatoon Police Service spokesperson Alyson Edwards.
Guns have now been seized from the residence where the boy lives.
“We did visit the residence where the boy lives, and seized other guns, seven long guns and another handgun.”
Edwards also said the parents may be charged.
“At this point we’re still investigating … there is the possibility of charges that are firearm related.”
Police hope to make a decision next week on whether charges will be laid.
