The Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) says it will pay the first’s month rent for 10 residents living in enriched housing at St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt who are being forced to move by the end of the week.

SHR is providing the rent to the affected residents as they were not given a month’s notice as required under the rental agreement.

“We understand that this is a difficult time for everyone involved,” said SHR vice-president Jackie Mann in a release.

“We understand that relocating people from a home they’ve occupied, in some cases for years, will be difficult.”

The move from the long-term care facility for the affected tenants is required to make room for 32 residents currently residing in the Dust Wing.

Those residents need to move after an engineering report indicated there is a structural issue with the flooring system in the wing.

SHR says the 10 tenants need to be moved by this Friday so renovations to can be completed before the long-term care residents can move in.

The health region has also committed to work with each tenant to ensure they do not incur out-of-pocket expenses associated with the move and will also provide financial support for the first 12 months of their relocation.
