Users of Prince Albert’s water supply will have to boil their water for a while longer.
The city announced on Friday the current boiled water order is expected to last longer than the two weeks originally anticipated.
The increase in time is due to the number of steps that must be completed in sequential order to restore the water supply to normal.
“It is critical that each of these steps be completed and tested before we can move on to the next,” said city manager Robert Cotterill.
“There are no shortcuts.”
Testing must first confirm the filtration and UV systems are producing water free of giardia, the parasite that prompted the boiled water order.
Results of that testing is expected back early next week at which time work can then begin to sanitize the River Street reservoir.
Once testing has confirmed the reservoir has been successful cleaned, work will then begin on the dedicated lines to the Second Avenue and Marquis Road reservoirs, followed by a draining and cleaning of each one.
After all the steps have been completed, flushing of the distribution system will begin.
“As we move further into the process, we will be able to better assess the timeline and we will keep the public fully informed as we know more,” added Cotterill.
