The incomes of more than 100 workers are in doubt following the closure of a hamburger processing plant in Saskatoon.

Over 90 unionized employees and about 20 non-union staff at New Food Classics found the gates locked when they showed up for work after the long weekend.

The company had been under creditor protection, but the business has now gone into receivership.

Norm Neault, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1400, says the union had been hoping a buyer could be found for the plant to prevent layoffs.

Neault says members have been asked to look at the possibility of applying for employment insurance as soon as possible.

New Food Classics has not commented on the closure.
